In the hospitality industry, we define a “Merchant Model” as the commercial model of an OTA (online travel agency). It is called Merchant model as the OTA is the merchant of record.  This means that the consumer pays the full amount for their stay directly to the OTA, normally at the time of booking.  The OTA then pays the hotel after the guest has checked out.
